Tripura, independent of British influence was the perfect place for Paresh Chandra Chatterjee to plant his first tea bush in 1912. A patriotic quest for self reliance, this move was to fuel the movement of Satyagraha by replacing British Tea with Indian tea.

While Manu Valley is famed now, its start in 1980 wasn’t the most propitious. Back then, Dipankar Chatterjee borrowed funds and purchased a fine “Balmer Lawrie” CTC machine, which he carried by boat across the Manu river to

install in a tiny fledgling factory. The boat capsized, and it took all of DC’s tenacity to retrieve the machine. There are ten CTC machines now in a state of the art “online factory”.
